It is still a mystery to me how people had been living in the castles in the past. You cannot help asking yourself that when visiting a place like Reinhardstein Castle in winter. (more…)
Another place that I had to visit twice in order to make more photographs of it……, but now I know – the more you travel, the more you’re starving for more knowledge and more detailed information about the places you visit.
The first thing about Wiltz that attracted me was the title ‘Capital of (more…)
We’ve already spoken of the Order of the Knights Templar, the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem, and the Trinitarian Order, but not about the Teutonic Order, or the Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem. It was the third order after the Order of the Knights Templar and the Order of Hospitallers, founded ca. 1190.
And the present building of the Commandery (more…)
Have you ever just got in the car and driven without any particular destination, just driven along the streets to see what the chance will offer you.
Thus, I found such forgotten places as (more…)
Of all the castles that I’ve seen, I won’t show you maybe only one in Germany. Because it was private, which I wasn’t aware of, and because the young nobleman who met me on his property with my camera in hand was so kind to me and told me that there is no problem that I’ve made these pictures, “unless (more…)
Never go to the forest without a map! Especially when it comes to such an intricate area with numerous paths and so many sites of interest as the Ferschweiler Plateau. I have proceeded twice to a Monument of Diana and although I had both times two different places as a starting point, I haven’t managed to reach it. (more…)
Chased by a watchdog, accompanied by a Belgian whose every other sentence is “it is not allowed”, on a cold sunless day (which is something that you have to get to use to, because you know this famous ad at the Brussels airport – ‘Chocolate is best when it’s kept out of the sun. No surprise that the best is found in Belgium.’), but I’ve managed to (more…)
I may love all Knight Templar’s stories (and that’s why I simply had to visit the exhibition “The Knights Templar. Separating Myth from Reality” in the Abbey of Stavelot, for example, which was my disappointment, because there was almost nothing that I didn’t already know about the Order), but standing in a long queue for buying a not so cheap ticket for the Knights festival, one of the events organized in Satzvey Castle, wasn’t my thing, so I had to (more…)
I’ve never managed to take the picture of Gouvy that I originally wanted to. It was a view of a street, that caught my eye while driving through the settlement. But I didn’t have the possibility to stop the car and capture the moment. And of course, the second time when I passed through the village, it wasn’t the same. I mean, the street hasn’t changed, but maybe my point of view (more…)
I had no intentions to make reviews of hotels. But a castle is a castle. And this is my greatest passion, as you already know. Who’s said, that Belgium is the country with the highest density of castles per square kilometer, when Château d’Urspelt is only 5 km away from Château de Clervaux. I know, I know – there is no such country as Belgium, where the castles arise one after another from the left and from the right when you drive down the interurban roads. (more…)
